Nostalgia is a good thing if it helps to clear the mental blockade. In most cases, the English are stuck in the past, which is damaging their national psyche. Now, the English need to look forward not backwards.

Bizarre, very odd man. His views on Race were proved totally wrong. Britain has more inter-racial marriages than of any other country. Love has won over his revolting views.

The reality of abrahamic religion is to manipulate people, guilt and shame them. God of these books seems to be narcissistic one. I reverted to islam for 9 years after a spiritual awakening i distance myself from it. If god loves you more than a mother, he will lead you to have your spiritual journey without guilting you of using your brain.

Outrageous arrogance of the man, to proclaim that women do not have analytical minds, and therefore he could not understand what on earth they were doing studying at Cambridge. I wonder what his wife and daughters thought about his contempt for the female of the species. His own mother was a schoolteacher, so why he persisted in this deluded belief about women possessing inferior intellects is bizarre in the extreme. He was as terrified of women, as he was of people with different coloured skin. But then, I have often noticed, that racist men are always, without fail, misogynists as well. It depressed me, to see how such a highly educated man could be so unenlightened and lacking in emotional intelligence.

If we had politicians like Enoch today the country would not be in the mess it is, unfortunately the gutless wonders and nodding dogs that currently occupy the political spectrum do little if anything to improve life in a country which has declined to a point of no return.

Steiner summarising Forster's view: "If you can connect closely to the group of human beings around you, you are doing politics in the finest and deepest sense." Would that our politicians set out with this view.

Bird of the soul, singing in the cage, Love of the Prophet, glory of the age; Breaths of Hu our hearts engage, Things are a bluff, Allah is enough! Now think of this singing nightingale: Passionate love can never grow stale, Seek the secret past the veil: Things are a bluff, Allah is enough! Hey nightingale, sing of what you crave, Unto the Lord forever be a slave, By the book rightly behave, Things are a bluff, Allah is enough! Lord, let this bird travel in the sky, Let him recall a day gone by, Keep Muhibbi's spirits high, Things are a bluff, Allah is enough!

Came after hearing David Bowie mentioning Steiner in an interview, answering a question about what he (Bowie) and his fellow musicians were trying to musically achieve in the early 70s. Seemed to be referring to what Steiner is here saying about the value of making even a small impression on history by pursuing even the slimmest chance of success. Himself exemplifying Steiner's "ironic modesty" in the process

26/9.23. Thank you so much Mr. Heffer for this wonderful documentary. Indeed what is there to mock? I was born July 1939 and grew up watching these films in the 1950's. They were a tribute to the bravery of our Army, Navy and Royal Airforce and all who took part including civilians in the second world war. My heroes were the fighter pilots, even when Elvis came along, still the fighter pilots !!! Thank you once again.

Wonderful. But I don't really get the last part about resisting the temptations of the USA to keep alive the culture from the Renaissance onwards that he belongs to. Yet he spent most of his time in England, with short forays to the USA and a period in Geneva. Yet his jewish culture was that of the Danube, the jews of the east of Europe. The western jews (Geneva) were different and of course the British jews were the only big European community of jews who survived the war complete. So despite his decades in England there was no need to put a stake in the ground, by his presence, to reassert the jewish contribution for all the jews in Britain, bar a few service men, ended the war alive and intact. If he really wanted to contribute to keeping that flame of his cultural inheritance alive then surely he should have moved to Vienna? I can only think otherwise that maybe his point was to indicate to younger European jews that they ought to kindle Judaism on the continent as much as they can, for the reason he gave about a continuation of a great contribution to European intellectualism.

What is the punishment for blasphemy in Islam? There is no punishment in Islam for blasphemy. No such punishment is prescribed in the Holy Quran, or in any of the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad(sa). Islam promotes the need for respect of all religions for the sake of peace in society, but it does not set out any punishment for blasphemy despite the offence it may cause people of faith. We have evidence in the traditions of the Holy Prophet(sa) where Abdullah bin Ubayyee (Chief of the hypocrites) continuously abused the Prophet(sa), and opposed him severely in Madinah. When he passed away, the Prophet(sa) stood to offer his funeral prayers but was asked by one of his companions, “O Allah’s Apostle! Do you offer the prayer for this man although he said so-and-so on such-and-such-a day?” and “that he is a hypocrite!”. The Prophet(sa) ignored his statements and continued to offer the funeral prayers of the dead man. (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 192) The above example shows that the Prophet(sa) never ordered any punishment for anyone who insulted or abused him or God; on the contrary he went to pray for them that they be guided aright. If somebody uses foul language against any holy person or teaching, Islam advises to keep away from such people as The Holy Qur’an says, And when you see those who trifle with our signs then turn thou away from them until then engage in a discourse other than that and if Satan cause thee to forget then sit not, after recollection, with the unjust people. (Ch.6: V.69) A book “ Rushdie Haunted by his unholy ghosts ” is a good read on this subject. This book and other related subjects with original teachings of Islam can be found on website www.alislam.org

It's good to be a midnight child to the dead end apocalypse. Relish life like a drunk prospers from a tiny bud to a fully glooming flower at the dead end. Shiva had two hospitable pets one under whom it was a sleeping man many times burning when forcefully cooled and the other time into the vanishing end of a tempered wife. May God bless thee. Thanks at the end to be a kind of salauddin Chamcha.

Proud ex Muslim here, I can freely proudly say Islam was all forced on me by My mother, father, cousins, uncles, aunties and my whole generation. I never had a connection with Islam from birth and still don't have any connections with Islam but Negative vibes and thoughts its why I had to disown my whole family to save my me. Islam was forced verbally and physically on me from birth even though I Showed signs towards my family that I was Different and liked different things, I was beaten out of my world and told haram, haram, haram. Being born and raised in Australia with Sunni Muslim Lebanese parents that are highly strict Is a mental health Bomb waiting to go off.
